Selbyville, Delaware

I admit that I did not know much about Delaware. My only impression, prior to driving Northward from Virginia Beach, was from views from Philadelphia, PA, when I lived there for six months in 1975. South Philadelphia and New Jersey and Northeast Delaware are very industrial. That is all I had seen of Delaware and was surprised at how rural and beautiful South and Mideast Delaware was. Also, I was surprised at the close proximity to pretty beaches along the Atlantic Ocean side of Delaware. Beth’s cousin Susan Robinson graciously hosted us at her Selbyville, DE, home and we spent a few days taking in the sites and bike riding in Rehoboth Beach, where we saw President Biden’s beach house and along the trail at Cape Henlopen State Park. We also took in Fort Mills Museum for some historic context of the area and Ocean City Beach was fun visit to stroll with a wide beach on one side and gift and ice cream shops galore.

On the trip to Selbyville, our route took us through the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and we stopped for food and cool beach sites along the way such as Virginia’s Cape Charles and Fishing Pier, for a side trip, and Island House Restaurant and Marina in Wachapreague, Virginia.
