Rails to Trail…the Spanish Moss Trail is a 10 + miles, 12 ft. wide path, through the wetlands and alongside stately neighborhoods with an abundance of live oaks with dripping moss. It follows the former Port Royal Railroad constructed in 1870. We can access it from our rental house 4 blocks away.
Note, it’s not actually Spanish and not moss according to our tour guide and Wikipedia! While it superficially resembles its namesake, it is neither a lichen such as Usnea nor a moss, and it is not native to Spain.
